What causes night sweats and how do we make it stop.

We will take the heat from your sleep and show you how to stop night sweats.

Night sweats are a result of heat not being transferred from your body fast enough. Within this web site you will find detailed information of specific conditions, diseases, medications and other related information dealing directly with night sweats. We talk about menopause and male sweats, Andropause. We look at conditions that cause night sweats and medications that cause night sweats. We take into consideration that some people are just hot sleepers and they can have night sweats too. We do this and we give you all answers as to why we have night sweats and how to stop them.

Sleeping Cooler Naturally

Night sweats can develop for many reasons and several of us would rather deal with this problem without having to take drugs. Regardless of the reasons for getting hot at night, we can all experience night sweats. To be able to sleep cooler is the key. Turning your air conditioner down to freezing is not. Within this site you will find some very detailed information on sweating, thermo dynamics, diseases, medications, HRT, and on and on and on  … there is enough detail stuff here to last a lifetime. But if you want the short of it, I will tell you up front what is happening when you get hot at night and how to stop your night sweats.

Why we get so hot at night

Why do we get in bed and it feels nice and cool and then the next thing you know we are hot as blazes?  When you get in bed, the air that surrounds you, your mattress, your sheets, your pillow are all nice and cool. After you get in, your bed starts to absorb the heat generated by your body. Your bed can only absorb so much at a time. If your body (skin) temperature is a constant rate all night long, you will probably sleep fine. When all factors are perfect, the heat your body generates is absorbed and dealt with at the same rate of production. Let’s say your body is creating 60 units of heat per minute. Your bed (under perfect conditions) is able to eliminate 60 Units of heat per minute. You sleep fine. But what happens when things are not perfect and at times you are creating more heat than your bed can absorb?  That is when we really turn up the heat.

Turning up the heat

For those of us that are hot sleepers realize that that extra heat can come and go all night long. If you have ever had a hot flash you know what I am talking about.

Example, you are sleeping away generating your 60 units of heat. The bed is doing its job of absorbing that heat and then without warning you start to generate 68 units of heat. Your bed can only take away 60 units per minute so you are stuck with the extra 8 units. Now this extra heat can be created by medications, diseases, hot flashes and much more and it can be higher than 8 lets say 15 units, or even 20 units of heat.

Continuing on, you’re sleeping away and (hot flash) you have created an extra 20 units of heat. The first to get hot is the air around you, then your pajamas (skip this if you sleep unclothed), then your bed gets hot, everything starts to get hot. This extra heat, unless dealt with will eventually snowball into enough heat to make you start sweating. So we have to get the heat out of your bed.

Getting the Heat out of your bed

We know our bed (in our example) can only absorb 60 units of heat under the current conditions. And we know that we are creating, at times, more heat than our bed can absorb. So what do we do? We must find a system that is able to remove, the heated air, the sweat trigger, from between your sheets. If we do not do this then we are going to keep getting hotter and hotter. Once the air between the sheets gets too hot it is all down hill from there and the sweating starts. We must find a way to remove that heated air and keep the bed cool even when we are generating more heat than the bed can absorb.

The Other side of the equation

As we have been looking at this we have been taking all the blame for getting hot at night, but it is not all our fault, not always. The other side of the equation is when it is hot outside. Air conditioners never keep the house at a perfect temperature. The outside temperature never stays the same all night long. The breeze outside helping keep your house cool never blows the same all night long. All of these factors are the other side of the equation. So what happens when these factors change?

When these factors change

These factors contribute to the efficiency of your bed. They change the rate at which your bed is able to absorb the heat. When all is well your bed is constant at 60 units of heat per minute. If there is only one small change in your bedroom environment, the your beds efficiency of removing heat has just gone from a 60 to a 45. That is the same thing as your body generating 15 more units of heat. The only difference is that this change is on the other side of the equation.

When equations collide

Let’s say the two sides change at the same time.  You are generating more heat, 20 units, and the efficiency of your bed falls by 15 units. Before you were stuck with trying to deal with only 20 extra units of heat and now you are dealing with 35 extra units. These two factors, while simplistically presented, are actually very complex with regards to the mechanics of heat. You must find a way to deal with these changes in order to stop night sweats naturally.

So that is the short version, there are about 100 pages on this site and you are welcome to brows around if you like but all they do is prove our point and show you how this all happens from a medical point of view. There are some pages on thermo dynamics and the mechanics of heat. If you like that sort of information you will enjoy it, if not, well it to may help you sleep. J

Thank you and enjoy
